While the term "talk therapy" is only the tip of the iceberg in regards to what people share and communicate in the course of conversation, for the purposes of distinguishing it from "art therapy" it seems to do the job.
The first thing to understand about Tea Cup Counseling & Art Therapy is that we are interested in whatever modality helps you or your loved one feel more alive. One way to think about us is that as therapists we speak more than one language. The language of words and of the body as well as the non-verbal language of art. It is available if and when we need it and is never a requirement.
(Of note as well is that Nina Hausfeld speaks both English and Russian fluently and is happy to conduct sessions in either language).
The flavors of talk therapy we use at Tea Cup vary, however a common thread between us is an orientation toward Transpersonal Psychology. So what is Transpersonal Psychology? In short, it is a psychological lens that incorporates modern evidence-based therapeutic practices alongside a person's spiritual beliefs and inclinations. In practical terms, Transpersonal Psychology concerns itself with both everyday life as well as the unseen forces that compel us to look more deeply into life's mysteries.
Other schools of thought employed at Tea Cup are Gestalt Therapy, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and other mindfulness-based practices.
